New York veteran police officer Paul Kelly has seen his share of horrors on the tough streets of the Bronx. But after a mysterious incident that nearly cost him his job, he is disturbed by a newfound ability and fears he is losing his mind.

One night, as he and his partner investigate a crime in progress, he is shot point-blank in the head by a man whose cold black eyes burn with embers. It is an evil somehow familiar to Paul, and all goes dark.

Paul miraculously regains consciousness in a hospital, only to find he has no memory. Soon, however, he will be visited by a specter from the past, who will awaken him to an identity more than 3200 years ago. In a time when the heavens still touched the earth and man witnessed the might of God with plain eyes, there lived Nahar, son of Nahath, son of Reuel. As Canaan suffers its first defeat by the Hebrew, Nahar is captured and made a bondman. Plotting escape at every turn he finds a mysterious power thwarting each attempt. As time passes, and Nahar is forced to learn the ways of the Hebrew, who call themselves Israelites, he finds himself fighting a relentless attraction to an Israelite woman. He is also beset with a rising sense of purpose, strangely awakened by the Israelites and the unexplainable power of their god. An evil plagues the land, one that Nahar has known in the past and will know again. He must remember what he has forgotten, and make an unexpected choice; either return to a life of solitude and flee to the desert, or stand with Israel and help them fulfill their destiny.
